Jehosheba

Jehosheba (meaning fullness or oath of the LORD; also Jehoshabeath in Chronicles) was the daughter of King Joram of Judah, sister of King Ahaziah, and wife of the high priest Jehoiada. When Athaliah seized power after Ahaziah's death and attempted to destroy all the royal offspring of Judah, it was Jehosheba who rescued the infant Joash — Ahaziah's son — from among those being killed, hiding him and his nurse in a bedroom of the temple for six years (2 Chronicles 22:11; 2 Kings 11:2).

Jehosheba's act of courage preserved the Davidic line at its most vulnerable moment. Without her intervention, the line of David would have been extinguished in Judah by a usurping queen. Her position as both royal daughter and high priest's wife gave her unique access that made the concealment possible. She is one of the pivotal women in the Old Testament's narrative of covenant continuity, though she appears in only two brief references.
