Jerahmeel

Jerahmeel (meaning the mercy or the beloved of God) was primarily the eldest son of Hezron, a grandson of Judah and Tamar, and the eponymous ancestor of the Jerahmeelites — a clan in the Negev south of Judah that David had contact with during his time as a fugitive (1 Chronicles 2:9, 25-26). The Jerahmeelites are mentioned in 1 Samuel 27:10 and 30:29 as one of the southern groups in whose territory David operated while at Ziklag.

A second Jerahmeel was a son of Kish the Merarite Levite who served in the temple service (1 Chronicles 24:29). A third was an official sent by Jehoiakim to arrest Jeremiah and Baruch after the scroll-burning episode (Jeremiah 36:26). The various Jerahmeels illustrate how a theophoric name meaning "God's mercy" was distributed widely across different families and periods.
