Jeruel

Jeruel (meaning fear of God or vision of God) was a wilderness area in Judah, east of the Tekoa road, where the prophet Jahaziel declared that Jehoshaphat's outnumbered army would find the invading Moabite-Ammonite coalition (2 Chronicles 20:16). The army was told: "You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the LORD."

Jehoshaphat led Judah to the wilderness of Jeruel after a night of prayer and fasting, with singers going ahead of the army praising God. When they arrived, the enemy forces had already turned on each other and lay dead (2 Chronicles 20:20-24). Jeruel appears only in this passage and is otherwise unknown — its significance entirely bound up with one of the most remarkable divine deliverances in Chronicles. The site may be in the region southeast of Bethlehem toward the Dead Sea.
