Jeshaiah

Jeshaiah (meaning salvation of the LORD) is the name of at least five individuals in the Old Testament. The most notable are: a son of Hananiah (grandson of Zerubbabel), in the Davidic genealogy (1 Chronicles 3:21); a musician son of Jeduthun assigned to the eighth division of temple musicians (1 Chronicles 25:3, 15); a Levite descendant of Eliezer who was a leader of the Levitical family that returned from exile with Ezra (Ezra 8:7); and a Levite of the sons of Merari who similarly returned with Ezra (1 Chronicles 26:25).

The name is closely related to Isaiah (Yeshayahu) and shares the same root meaning. The presence of a Davidic descendant named Jeshaiah in the post-exilic genealogy (1 Chronicles 3:21) is of historical interest, as it shows the Davidic line continued to be traceable into the Second Temple period.
