Jeshanah

Jeshanah (meaning old or ancient) was a town in the hill country of Ephraim that Abijah king of Judah captured from Jeroboam I along with Bethel and Ephron during the war between the divided kingdoms (2 Chronicles 13:19). It has been tentatively identified with the village of Burj el-Isaneh northeast of Bethel.

The brief mention of Jeshanah is part of the Chronicler's account of Abijah's victory over Jeroboam, which the Chronicler presents as a divine reward for Abijah's declaration that Judah had not abandoned the LORD and his priesthood (2 Chronicles 13:10-12). The capture of several border towns in Ephraim temporarily extended Judah's territory northward, though these gains did not persist beyond Abijah's reign.
