Jonadab

Jonadab (meaning: who gives liberally) is the name of two notable biblical figures. The first was a nephew of David, described as a very crafty man, who advised Amnon on how to lure his half-sister Tamar and is thus morally implicated in the rape that precipitated Absalom's vengeance. The second and more honored Jonadab was the son of Rechab, who met Jehu during his purge of Baal worship and endorsed his reform, and whose clan maintained a vow of ascetic simplicity that Jeremiah later used as an object lesson of faithful obedience.
