Jonas

Jonas is the Greek and New Testament form of the Hebrew name Jonah. In the New Testament it appears in two distinct contexts: first, as the name Jesus uses for the prophet Jonah when citing the sign of Jonah as a foreshadowing of his resurrection; and second, as the name of Simon Peter's father — "Simon Bar-Jonas" (son of Jonas) — used by Jesus at the great confession at Caesarea Philippi and again at the post-resurrection restoration of Peter by the Sea of Galilee.
