Kadmiel

Kadmiel (meaning before God or God of antiquity) was a prominent Levite who returned from the Babylonian exile with Zerubbabel in the first wave of returning exiles. His family is listed in Ezra 2:40 and Nehemiah 7:43 as belonging to the Levitical contingent that came back to reestablish temple worship in Jerusalem. Kadmiel and his sons played active roles in the post-exilic reconstruction and religious renewal.

He is specifically named in Nehemiah 9:4–5 among the Levites who stood on the platform leading the great assembly in confession and praise during the covenant renewal ceremony, and he appears again in Nehemiah 10:9 as one of the Levites who set their seal to the solemn covenant. In Nehemiah 12:8 and 12:24 he is listed among the Levitical leaders overseeing the praise and thanksgiving at the dedication of the rebuilt walls. Kadmiel's repeated appearance in the key moments of post-exilic Jewish life makes him one of the more prominent Levitical figures in the restoration community.
