Kadmonites

The Kadmonites (orientals or easterners) were a Canaanite or semi-nomadic tribe included in the list of peoples whose land God promised to Abraham in Genesis 15:19. Listed alongside the Kenites and Kenizzites in the covenant oracle, the Kadmonites are otherwise unattested in Scripture—they appear in this single reference as part of the enumeration of ten nations inhabiting the territory between the River of Egypt and the Euphrates that constituted the full extent of the Abrahamic land grant.

The name derives from the Hebrew root meaning east or ancient, suggesting they were either an eastern people or one of the primordial inhabitants of the region. Their absence from the conquest narratives of Joshua suggests they had been absorbed, displaced, or assimilated long before Israel arrived—or that the Genesis 15 list represents a more expansive vision of the promised territory than what the conquest actually secured. The Kadmonites stand as one of several pre-Israelite peoples whose identity and fate remain obscure beyond their mention in the Abrahamic covenant.
