Kattath
Kattath was a town of the tribe of Asher, listed in Joshua 19:15 among the cities of Zebulun's or Asher's allotment. It has been identified by some scholars with Kitron (Judges 1:30), from which the Zebulunites failed to drive out the Canaanite inhabitants, and also with Kana el-Jalil. The town appears only in the boundary and city lists of Joshua, receiving no narrative treatment elsewhere in Scripture.
Its location in the lower Galilee region, where the territories of several northern tribes overlapped and intersected with Canaanite population centers, explains why Zebulun's inability to fully possess such towns is noted in Judges 1. The Canaanites of Kattath/Kitron were not expelled but subjected to forced labor—an accommodation that the Deuteronomic historian viewed as a failure of the conquest ideal. The town's obscurity in subsequent biblical history suggests it remained a minor settlement in the Galilean highlands.
