Kibzaim

Kibzaim (meaning two heaps) was a city in the territory of Ephraim assigned to the Kohathite Levites, listed in Joshua 21:22. It is identified with Jokmeam of 1 Chronicles 6:68, where the same Levitical assignment is recorded under an alternative form of the name. The dual form of the name may reflect an ancient double-village or a settlement spread across two hills.

Kibzaim's location in Ephraim placed it in the central highlands, and its Levitical designation made it one of the teaching and pastoral centers for Ephraim's tribal territory. The Kohathites, who were responsible for carrying the sacred furniture of the tabernacle during the wilderness period, received cities spread throughout Judah, Simeon, Benjamin, Ephraim, Dan, and the half-tribe of Manasseh—a geographic distribution ensuring Levitical presence throughout the settled land. Kibzaim's precise location in Ephraim has not been positively identified by modern archaeology.
