Lemuel

Lemuel (meaning devoted to God) was a king whose mother's instruction to him forms Proverbs 31:1–9, the only passage in Scripture explicitly attributed to a woman's wisdom teaching. His identity is uncertain; the rabbis identified him with Solomon, while others have suggested an Arabian king, as the title "oracle" (massa') may have a geographic rather than simply literary connotation. His mother counsels him against women who destroy kings, against wine and strong drink, and for the defense of the poor and the cause of justice — a compact summary of royal virtue in the wisdom tradition.
