Lice

Lice (Hebrew kinnim) were the third plague inflicted on Egypt: Moses struck the dust of the ground with his staff and it became lice throughout Egypt, tormenting both humans and animals (Ex. 8:16–17). The Egyptian magicians attempted to duplicate this sign but failed, and their admission — "This is the finger of God" (Ex. 8:19) — marked the first explicit acknowledgment by Pharaoh's own court that divine power surpassed their arts. Modern translations sometimes render kinnim as "gnats" or "mosquitoes," as the exact insect species cannot be determined with certainty from the Hebrew.
