Luhith

Luhith (meaning made of boards) was a place in Moab, situated between the cities of Zoar and Horonaim, mentioned in two prophetic laments over Moab's coming desolation. Isaiah 15:5 records: in the way of Luhith they shall go up with weeping; for in the way of Horonaim they shall raise up a cry of destruction. Jeremiah 48:5 echoes almost identically: in the going up of Luhith continual weeping shall go up; for in the going down of Horonaim the enemies have heard a cry of distress.

The ascent of Luhith in both passages suggests a steep road or pass climbing the Moabite plateau, possibly connecting the Jordan valley or Zoar region to the higher ground of Moab. The site has not been definitively identified, though several candidates in the Kerak region of modern Jordan have been proposed. The parallel structure of Isaiah and Jeremiah in describing Moab's flight along this road indicates a specific, well-known route that residents of Moab would have recognized as the path of desperate exile.
