Maasiai

Maasiai (meaning the defense of the LORD or work of Jehovah) was a priest of the family of Immer who was among those resident in Jerusalem after the Babylonian exile, listed in 1 Chronicles 9:12 in the genealogy of priests who settled in Jerusalem during the early post-exilic period. He was the son of Adiel, grandson of Jahzerah, and descended through the priestly course of Immer.

Beyond this genealogical record, Maasiai receives no individual narrative. He represents the priestly families who returned from the Babylonian captivity and resumed temple service in Jerusalem, forming the foundation of the restored cultic community described in Ezra and Nehemiah. The parallel list in Nehemiah 11:13 names a similar priestly figure as Amashai son of Azarel, which may represent a variant form of the same individual or a related family member.
