Madon
Name meaning: "a chiding; a garment; his measure"
Madon (meaning strife or contention) was a Canaanite royal city in northern Palestine whose king joined the coalition assembled by Jabin king of Hazor against Joshua (Joshua 11:1). The combined northern coalition was decisively defeated by Israel at the waters of Merom (Joshua 11:7–8), and the king of Madon is listed among the thirty-one Canaanite kings defeated by Joshua (Joshua 12:19). The site lay in the Galilee region, north of the Jezreel Valley, though its precise location has not been definitively identified.
Madon represents the northern reaches of Canaanite city-state power, a network of royal cities that formed the primary organized resistance to Israel's settlement in Galilee. The battle at the waters of Merom that broke this coalition opened the northern highlands for Israelite settlement in a manner analogous to the earlier victory at Gibeon that secured the south.
