Mahazioth

Mahazioth (meaning visions or seeing a sign) was a Kohathite Levite, one of the fourteen sons of Heman who were set apart for the prophetic music ministry of the temple under David's organization (1 Chronicles 25:4). Heman's sons were appointed to prophesy with harps, lyres, and cymbals under the direction of their father. Mahazioth was assigned the twenty-third of the twenty-four courses of musicians by lot (1 Chronicles 25:30), giving him a defined rotation in the ongoing temple music that David established as a permanent institution.

The list of Heman's fourteen sons in 1 Chronicles 25:4 has been observed to form a prayer or psalm when the names are read consecutively — a phenomenon that may reflect the liturgical context in which these names were given or remembered.
