Mashal
Place Name
Name meaning: "a parable; governing"
Mashal (meaning a parable or governing) was a Levitical city in the territory of Asher, assigned to the Gershonite Levites (1 Chronicles 6:74). It is called Mishal in Joshua 21:30. The city illustrates the system by which Levitical towns were distributed throughout the tribal territories so that priestly ministry would be accessible across Israel, rather than concentrated in a single location.
