Massa

Person Name

Name meaning: "a burden; prophecy"

Massa (meaning a burden or prophecy) was a son of Ishmael and grandson of Abraham (Genesis 25:14), listed among the twelve princes of the Ishmaelite tribes. The Massaites settled in Arabia, and some scholars have associated the term massa (which in Hebrew also means an oracle or prophetic utterance) with the word used in the superscriptions of Proverbs 30–31, where the "words of Agur" and the "words of King Lemuel" are each described as a massa — possibly indicating Massa as an Arabian kingdom that produced its own wisdom tradition.
