Matthan

Matthan (meaning a gift) was the grandfather of Joseph, the husband of Mary, according to the genealogy in Matthew 1:15. He was the son of Eleazar and the father of Jacob, who was the father of Joseph. Matthan thus appears in the royal Davidic line leading to Jesus's legal father. The name is a shortened form of Mattaniah.
