Matthew Henry
Commentator
Matthew Henry (1662–1714) was a Welsh Nonconformist minister and biblical expositor whose An Exposition of the Old and New Testaments (1708–10; completed posthumously by others, 1714) became one of the most widely read English-language Bible commentaries in history. Written for devotional and practical use, his work is marked by clear, warm prose, copious quotation of Scripture, and a practical Reformed piety that valued spiritual application alongside exposition. His concise single-volume distillation has remained in continuous print and is freely available as a classic public-domain commentary.
