Mattithiah
Person
Mattithiah (meaning gift of the LORD) was a Levite of the Kohathite clan, the firstborn son of Shallum, who had charge of the flat cakes offered to God in the tabernacle and temple (1 Chronicles 9:31). Another Mattithiah was a musician appointed by David for the service of song before the ark, playing a psaltery (1 Chronicles 25:3, 21). A Mattithiah is also mentioned among the Levites who assisted Ezra when he read the Law to the returned exiles (Nehemiah 8:4), and the name appears twice in the Lukan genealogy of Jesus (Luke 3:25–26).
