Maul
Concept
A maul (Hebrew mepits) was a heavy war club or hammer used as a weapon, comparable to a battleaxe. The word appears in Proverbs 25:18, where a man who gives false testimony against his neighbor is compared to "a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow" — instruments of violent destruction. The image conveys the devastating, blunt-force damage that slander and false witness inflict on human relationships and reputation, no less lethal than a physical weapon.
