Mearah

Mearah (meaning a cave or making empty) was a place near Sidon mentioned in Joshua 13:4 as part of the land that remained to be possessed after Joshua's initial campaigns. It appears in the list of territory belonging to the Sidonians that Israel had not yet taken at the time of Joshua's old age. The exact location is uncertain, though it may be identified with a region of caverns in the slopes of the Lebanon mountains near Sidon.
