Medad

Medad (meaning he that measures or water of love) was one of the seventy elders appointed by Moses to share the burden of leadership over Israel in the wilderness (Numbers 11:16–17). Along with Eldad, Medad remained in the camp rather than going to the tabernacle, yet the Spirit rested on him and he prophesied among the people. When Joshua urged Moses to stop them, Moses replied: "Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the LORD's people were prophets, and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!" (Numbers 11:29) — a remarkable statement of prophetic hope fulfilled at Pentecost (Acts 2).
