Medan

Person Name

Name meaning: "judgment; process"

Medan (meaning judgment or process) was the third son of Abraham by Keturah, the wife Abraham took after Sarah's death (Genesis 25:2). He is listed among the six sons who were sent away eastward with gifts, keeping them separate from Isaac as the heir of promise (Genesis 25:6). The Medanites are possibly connected with the Midianites and may have been an Arabian tribe; some ancient texts use Medan and Midian interchangeably, as in Genesis 37:28–36 where the brothers who sold Joseph are called both Midianites and Medanites.
