Memucan

Memucan (meaning impoverished or to prepare; certain; true) was one of the seven princes of Persia and Media who had access to King Ahasuerus and sat first in the kingdom (Esther 1:14). When Queen Vashti refused the king's summons, the king consulted his princes about what should be done according to law. Memucan answered on behalf of the council, recommending that Vashti be deposed — arguing that her refusal would encourage all women throughout the empire to despise their husbands — and that a royal decree be published commanding honor for husbands in every household (Esther 1:16–21). His counsel shaped the events that led to Esther's selection as queen.
