Meonenim

Meonenim (meaning charmers or regarders of times) is a place name appearing in Judges 9:37, where Zebul tells Abimelech that men are "coming down from the middle of the land, and another company is coming along the way of the plain of Meonenim" (the oak or terebinth of Meonenim). The name suggests the site was associated with those who practiced divination or read omens — charmers or astrologers. The Mosaic law strictly prohibited such practices (Deuteronomy 18:10–14), and the name of this landmark preserves a memory of a site connected with forbidden divination, near Shechem.
