Meraioth

Meraioth (meaning bitterness or rebellious) is the name of several priests in the Old Testament. The most notable was a high-priestly ancestor: a descendant of Eleazar, son of Aaron, in the priestly line recorded in 1 Chronicles 6:6–7, 52. His name appears in the genealogy connecting Phinehas and Zadok. A second Meraioth was the head of a priestly family in the restoration period, mentioned in connection with the priesthood of Joiakim (Nehemiah 12:15). A third Meraioth is listed as an ancestor of Ezra the scribe (Ezra 7:3; 1 Chronicles 9:11; Nehemiah 11:11).
