Mered

Mered (meaning rebellious or ruling) was a descendant of Judah mentioned only in the genealogical lists of 1 Chronicles 4:17. He is noted there as the husband of two women: Bithiah, a daughter of Pharaoh who had married into Israel, and an unnamed Jewish wife, by whom he had three sons. The brief notice is remarkable chiefly for the mention of an Egyptian princess among Mered's wives, suggesting intermarriage between Israelite tribal families and Egyptian nobility — a striking detail preserved in the Judahite genealogies.
