Meremoth

Meremoth (meaning bitterness or myrrh of death) was the name of at least two figures in post-exilic Judah. The most prominent was Meremoth son of Uriah the priest, who played a prominent administrative role in the restoration community: he received and weighed the silver and gold vessels that Ezra brought back from Babylon (Ezra 8:33) and repaired two sections of the Jerusalem wall during Nehemiah's rebuilding effort (Nehemiah 3:4, 21). A second Meremoth was among the priests who returned with Zerubbabel (Nehemiah 12:3). The repetition of the name suggests it was a family name in priestly circles.
