Merom

Merom (meaning eminences or high places) was the body of water and surrounding region in northern Galilee where Joshua achieved a decisive victory over a Canaanite coalition led by Jabin king of Hazor. Joshua 11:5 describes a confederation of northern Canaanite kings assembling at the waters of Merom to fight Israel. Joshua attacked suddenly and routed them, pursuing the survivors as far as Zidon and Misrephoth-maim. The victory broke the last organized Canaanite resistance in the north.

The waters of Merom are generally identified with Lake Huleh (the ancient Semechonitis), a marshy lake in the upper Jordan valley north of the Sea of Galilee, though some scholars dispute the exact location. The battle at Merom completed the military subjugation of Canaan begun at Jericho and Ai.
