Meroz

Meroz was an Israelite settlement cursed in the Song of Deborah (Judges 5:23) for failing to come to the aid of Israel in the battle against Sisera. The angel of the LORD pronounced a bitter curse on its inhabitants: Curse Meroz, said the angel of the LORD, curse its inhabitants thoroughly, because they did not come to the help of the LORD, to the help of the LORD against the mighty. The location of Meroz is unknown; various sites in the Jezreel valley and upper Galilee have been proposed. Its infamy rests entirely on this single verse, making it a biblical byword for culpable neutrality when covenant solidarity required action.
