Meshullam

Meshullam (meaning peaceable or perfect) was one of the most common names in post-exilic Israel, borne by more than twenty distinct individuals in the Old Testament. Among the most notable: Meshullam son of Shaphan, whose grandson Ahikam protected the prophet Jeremiah (2 Kings 22:3); a high priestly ancestor in 1 Chronicles 9:11; Meshullam who repaired two sections of the Jerusalem wall during Nehemiah's rebuilding (Nehemiah 3:4, 30); and a Levite who assisted Ezra in teaching the law (Nehemiah 8:4). The frequency of the name reflects the importance of shalom-derived names in Israelite onomastics.
