Methuselah

Methuselah (meaning uncertain; possibly man of the javelin or his death shall bring) was the son of Enoch and the grandfather of Noah, and holds the biblical record for longevity — 969 years (Genesis 5:27), the longest lifespan recorded in Scripture. He was born when his father Enoch was 65, and Enoch's subsequent walk with God and translation without death (Genesis 5:22–24) sets his son's birth as a spiritual turning point. Methuselah fathered Lamech at age 187, and Lamech fathered Noah. According to the chronology of Genesis 5, Methuselah died in the year of the Flood — a fact that has prompted centuries of speculation about whether he perished in it.

Luke's genealogy of Jesus includes Methuselah (Luke 3:37), tracing the messianic line through Seth back to Adam. His name has become proverbial for extreme old age in Western culture.
