Micaiah

Micaiah son of Imlah was a prophet of the LORD in the northern kingdom during the reign of Ahab, famous for his courageous confrontation with the court prophets in 1 Kings 22. When Ahab and Jehoshaphat sought prophetic confirmation for their planned campaign against Ramoth-gilead, four hundred court prophets unanimously predicted victory. Micaiah alone spoke the truth: he saw Israel scattered on the mountains like sheep without a shepherd and described a vision of the divine council in which a lying spirit had been sent into the mouths of Ahab's prophets.

For this, Micaiah was struck, imprisoned, and given only bread and water until Ahab's return — but Ahab did not return; he was killed in battle just as Micaiah had prophesied. The episode is a sustained meditation on true versus false prophecy, the courage required to speak God's word against royal pressure, and the sovereignty of divine purpose. A different Micaiah, daughter of Uriel, was the mother of King Abijah (2 Chronicles 13:2).
