Michael

Michael (meaning who is like God?) is the name of numerous figures in the Old Testament genealogies, and more significantly the name of the archangel who appears in Daniel, Jude, and Revelation as the heavenly defender of Israel and leader of the divine armies. In Daniel 10:13 and 10:21, Michael is described as one of the chief princes who came to assist the angelic messenger against the prince of Persia, and as your prince — the angelic guardian of Israel. Daniel 12:1 identifies Michael as the great prince who will stand up for Israel in the final tribulation.

In the New Testament, Jude 9 refers to Michael the archangel's dispute with the devil over the body of Moses — a tradition also preserved in early Jewish literature. Revelation 12:7–9 portrays Michael and his angels fighting the dragon (Satan) in a cosmic war and casting him out of heaven. Michael is thus the preeminent warrior angel in biblical tradition, whose name — who is like God? — functions as a battle cry against all who would usurp divine glory.
