Migdal-Edar

Migdal-Edar (Hebrew: tower of the flock) was the place near Bethlehem where Jacob pitched his tent after Rachel's death during the birth of Benjamin (Genesis 35:21). Its name suggests a watchtower used by shepherds to guard their flocks in the Bethlehem highlands — a feature of the pastoral landscape still visible in the region. Micah 4:8 uses the phrase tower of the flock (Migdal-Eder) as a poetic designation for Jerusalem or Zion in a prophecy of restoration, addressing the daughter of Zion as the guardian of God's flock.
