Migdol

Migdol (meaning a tower or fortress) was the name of one or more sites on the northeastern border of Egypt, near the Reed Sea. The Israelites camped near Migdol during the Exodus before the crossing of the sea (Exodus 14:2; Numbers 33:7), and Jeremiah and Ezekiel mention it as one of the places in Egypt where Jewish refugees settled after Jerusalem's fall (Jeremiah 44:1; 46:14; Ezekiel 29:10; 30:6). The repetition suggests Migdol was a well-known Egyptian border fortress commanding the approaches from Canaan, functioning as a military and administrative gateway.
