Misgab

Misgab (meaning the high fortress or lofty refuge) appears in Jeremiah 48:1 in the KJV as a place in Moab: Woe to Nebo! for it is spoiled; Kiriathaim is confounded and taken; Misgab is confounded and dismayed. Most modern translations render misgab as a common noun — the stronghold — rather than as a proper place name, understanding Jeremiah to be lamenting the fall of Moab's fortresses generally. Whether it names a specific fortress or denotes Moabite strength as a concept, the oracle announces its vulnerability before the coming judgment.
