Mishal

Mishal (also spelled Misheal, meaning parables or request) was a Levitical city in the territory of Asher allotted to the Gershonite Levites (Joshua 21:30; 1 Chronicles 6:74). It appears also in the list of Asher's cities in Joshua 19:26 (as Miseal). The exact location is unknown; it was somewhere in the coastal plain of Galilee. As a Levitical city it served as a residence for Levitical families in the Asherite territory, following the Mosaic provision for Levites to live distributed among the tribes rather than holding a territorial portion of their own.
