Mizar

Mizar (meaning little) is a hill or summit mentioned once in Scripture, in the lament of Psalm 42:6, where the psalmist writes: My soul is cast down within me; therefore I remember you from the land of Jordan and of Hermon, from Mount Mizar. The precise location of Mizar is uncertain, but the context suggests a lesser elevation in the vicinity of the Jordan River headwaters and the Anti-Lebanon range, possibly one of the lower spurs of Hermon. The name's meaning — "little" — contrasts it with the towering heights of Lebanon and Hermon nearby. Some scholars identify it with Jebel Ajlun east of the Jordan. The reference appears to be autobiographical: the psalmist, exiled and cut off from the sanctuary in Jerusalem, recalls the landscape of the north as he pours out his soul in longing for God's presence.
