Mosera

Mosera (meaning a bond or chastisement) was a wilderness station of the Israelites, described in Deuteronomy 10:6 as the location where Aaron died and where he was buried. The reference in Numbers 33:37–38 places Aaron's death at Mount Hor on the border of Edom, which appears to be a complementary rather than contradictory account: Mosera may have been the name of the broader district or encampment at the foot of Mount Hor where the Israelites were stationed when Aaron ascended the mountain to die. The site is tentatively identified with el-Tayibeh, a spring at the base of the pass leading up to Mount Hor. Aaron's death at this location marked a transition for Israel: his priestly garments were transferred to his son Eleazar, who succeeded him as high priest (Num. 20:26–28).
