Nadab

Nadab (meaning willing; noble) is the name of several men. (1.) The eldest son of Aaron and Elisheba (Ex. 6:23), consecrated with his brothers and father as a priest (Ex. 28:1). He and his brother Abihu "offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not" and were consumed by fire from the LORD's presence (Lev. 10:1–2). They died childless, and the high-priestly line descended through their brothers Eleazar and Ithamar. (2.) The son of Jeroboam I and second king of Israel (c. 910–909 B.C.), who "did evil in the sight of the LORD" following his father's idolatry (1 Kgs. 15:25–26). He was assassinated by Baasha while besieging Gibbethon, fulfilling Ahijah's prophecy against Jeroboam's house (1 Kgs. 15:27–29).
