Person Name

Name meaning: "hoarse; dry; hot"

Nahor (meaning snorer; hoarse) is the name of two ancestors of Abraham. (1.) The grandfather of Abraham, son of Serug, who lived 148 years (Gen. 11:22–25). (2.) The brother of Abraham, son of Terah, who remained at Haran when Abraham departed for Canaan (Gen. 11:26–29). This Nahor married his niece Milcah and had eight sons with her and four sons with his concubine Reumah (Gen. 22:20–24). His grandson Bethuel was the father of Rebekah and Laban, making him the ancestor of both Isaac's wife and Jacob's wives. The city of Haran is sometimes called "the city of Nahor" (Gen. 24:10).
