Nain

Nain (meaning lovely; pleasant) was a village in Galilee at whose gate Jesus raised the only son of a widow from the dead (Luke 7:11–17). The miracle, performed without any request or expressed faith, demonstrated Christ's sovereign compassion for the bereaved. Nain is identified with the modern village of Nein on the northwestern slope of the hill of Moreh ("Little Hermon"), about six miles southeast of Nazareth. The village would have been visible from Nazareth. The raising of the widow's son echoed Elijah's similar miracle at Zarephath (1 Kgs. 17:17–24) and identified Jesus as a prophet greater than Elijah.
