Naioth

Naioth was a place in Ramah where Samuel presided over a community of prophets, and to which David fled when he escaped from Saul (1 Sam. 19:18). When Saul sent successive companies of messengers to seize David, the Spirit of God came upon them and they prophesied instead. Saul himself then went to Naioth, and he too was seized by the Spirit, stripped off his clothes, and lay prophesying before Samuel all day and night — giving rise to the proverb "Is Saul also among the prophets?" (1 Sam. 19:20–24). The name probably refers to the dwelling-place or school associated with Samuel's prophetic community.
