Nathanael

Nathanael (meaning God has given), a disciple of Jesus "of Cana in Galilee" (John 21:2), was brought to Jesus by Philip with the invitation, "Come and see" (John 1:45–46). His initial skepticism — "Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?" — was immediately overcome when Jesus demonstrated supernatural knowledge: "Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit" (John 1:47). Nathanael's astonished confession — "Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!" (John 1:49) — is one of the earliest Christological declarations in John's Gospel. He is widely identified with Bartholomew in the Synoptics, as John never mentions Bartholomew and the Synoptics never mention Nathanael.
