Nebuchadrezzar

Nebuchadrezzar is the more accurate transliteration of the Babylonian king's name (Nabu-kudurri-usur), used consistently in Jeremiah and Ezekiel and occasionally in Kings. The form "Nebuchadnezzar," used in Daniel and most of Kings and Chronicles, is an alternate Hebrew spelling that substitutes n for r in the middle of the name. Both forms refer to the same person — Nebuchadnezzar II, the Babylonian king who destroyed Jerusalem in 586 B.C. The variation reflects the different scribal traditions that preserved the two books of Kings/Chronicles/Daniel on one hand and the prophets Jeremiah/Ezekiel on the other.
