Neginoth

Neginoth (Hebrew neginot, meaning "stringed instruments" or "pluckings") is a musical direction appearing in the titles of six psalms (Ps. 4, 6, 54, 55, 67, 76), indicating they were composed for performance on stringed instruments. The term derives from the root nagan, to play a stringed instrument. The singular form Neginah appears in Psalm 61:1 and Lamentations 3:14. The exact nature of the instruments intended — lyre, harp, lute — is uncertain, but the term consistently signals a string-instrument performance tradition within the temple liturgy.
